Define carbohydrate
Carbohydrates are molecules made mostly of carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen — usually with about twice as much hydrogen as oxygen.
Using that definition, sort each card into "Yes, this is a carbohydrate" or "No, it isn't."
Glucose
A simple sugar — cells break it down quickly for energy.
Glycogen
A stored form of glucose found in animal liver and muscle.
Starch
A stored form of glucose found in plant cells, like potatoes.
Cellulose
A tough molecule that makes up plant cell walls.
Chitin
A tough molecule that makes up an insect's exoskeleton.
Fungal cell wall
A tough molecule (also chitin) that makes up a fungus's cell wall.
